This was the second time that Kate and I have cruised to Iceland, calling at Akureryi
and Reykjavik. This time arrangements had been made with a local taxi firm to
hire a seven-seater taxi plus English speaking driver for the day, and we
visited more or less the same locations around Akureryi as on the last trip. However, as
there were only 7 of us we again got ahead of the tour coaches and as a result saw far
more than last time.
We visited Goğafoss (Waterfall of the Gods), Skutustadagigar pseudo-craters, the Hverarond geo thermal area, and finally went swimming in the naturally heated outdoor baths of Lake Mıvatn - a somewhat surreal experience with outside naturally heated blood-temperature water. In addition, as we had a local driver we also saw some attractions of the beaten track, such as the original natural heated swimming holes used by him as a child some 50 years ago!
