Western Canada has more than it's fair share of lakes and waterfalls. One of the most spectacular is Hells Gate, where the Fraser river is squeezed into a narrow channel. At peak times, more water flows through this channel than over Niagara, yet the gorge is only 34 meters wide. The concrete structures on the right of the gorge are salmon ladders ("The International Fishways"). Earlier on in the year, when the winter snows are melting, they can be totally underwater.
