We arrived in Gdynia, a few miles from Gdansk, in the middle of the night, as the ship accelerated in order to drop off a medical emergency. As a result, we were woken by a leading contender for "the worlds loudest brass band and cheerleader" outside our window the following morning. Actually, it was a better sound than my usual alarm. We spent the day on a trip to Malborg, an enormous brick built edifice that is about 30 miles away and dates back around 800 years. We then worked our way back to Gdansk, taking in the view of the restored old town and from the top of the big wheel, and finally back to the ship past the famous Solidarity monument. Once again, we decided that we really liked Poland! |
