It was 11 years since we last visited Lisbon.  This time, we started by catching a local bus from just outside the docks to the Belém district.  It was from here that most of Portugal's historic explorers started out their voyages, and this is commemorated by the Discoveries Monument, a tower that looks more impressive from further away than close up.  We also spent a considerable amount of time in the spectacular Jeronimos Monastery and walked to Belém Tower.

As time was now drawing short, we caught a taxi from Belém to the Castle of St George in the centre of Lisbon.  After admiring the views from the top of the medieval walls (and the slightly alarming low guard rails and long vertical drops J), we walked back down the hill towards the vast Comercio Square, and another taxi back to the ship.

Practical note - 2 taxis (including tips) and 2 local bus rides cost in total €17.40 - less than the €22 the ship wanted for transfers just to Comercio Square, and considerably more convenient.
