Tallinn is the capital of Estonia, and it’s old town has been described as one of the perfectly preserved medieval towns of Europe.  A more accurate description would be perfectly preserved medieval town populated by a plethora of souvenir and antique shops.

Highlights of Tallinn include Town Hall Square, the views of the old town and the orthodox Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.

The old Dominican monastery is also worth a visit – hard to find, but a small cool oasis of peace in a hectic tourist filled city.

Finally, there is a magnificent view from the top of the tower of St Olav’s Church, well worth the steep 250-odd spiral steps to get there.  Allegedly, this was the worlds tallest tower in 1492.  However, I have my doubts if the tower would ever pass a health and safety inspection in the UK!
