Kona

Friday was spent in Kona, a small town on the West Coast of the Big Island.  We had decided to make this a lazy day, but when we got there, we decided that we wanted to do something beyond browsing the usual array of tourist shops, so we took a ride on the Atlantis Submarine.

The submarine is designed for passenger viewing of the fish and coral, and takes you down to 100 feet below sea-level in relative comfort, behind a big (thick) window.  It gives you a good dry view of the fish and the coral, and also makes very clear the difference that a little depth makes - lots of fish and coral at 60 feet, just sand at 100.  Just the one underwater picture to give a flavour, as everything goes bluey-green just a few feet underwater anyway.
