We started our second day on Hong Kong island. We caught the Star Ferry across the harbour - one of the world's great sight-seeing bargains - and then walked to the foot of the Peak tram. The tram is cable pulled, and rises up incredibly steep slopes. It takes around 10 minutes to reach the top, where there is an incongruous shopping mall. However, the views are great over Hong Kong harbour in one direction, and out to the South China Sea in the other. It was very hot and humid, so Kate retired for a cold drink while Dave did the 2 mile round the peak trail. After this, we took the tram back down and caught the underground back to the hotel. Dave then decided to investigate the Golden Computer Arcade at Sham Shui Po, where you can buy almost anything IT related. He then went into a local DVD shop and bought most of it. At the end of the day, we took another walk down Nathan Street at night, and photographed the (rather tacky) neon of the "Golden Mile". |
