| Again in Reykjavik, one of our cruise critic group had been extremely
organised and arranged for a local firm (Iceland Horizons) to conduct a Golden Circle tour in
two minibuses - 12 on one and 11 on the other.  As a result, we were again able
to avoid the majority of the cruise coaches for most of the time and were able
to see the sites in a slightly more leisurely fashion. The day began with a call at Žingvellir, the seat of the old Icelandic assembly going back to 930AD (and also on the Mid Atlantic rift). After this we headed to Gullfoss (the Golden Falls), and then finally to Geysir, site of the original geyser. We also stopped for a picture with some Icelandic horses, small pure-bred horses dating back to Viking times that are unique to Iceland. |
